The main difference between indoor and outdoor wireless CCTV is that the outdoor CCTV will have to face the weather changes outdoor while indoor CCTV doesn’t need. The weather changes a lot outdoor, and you would not control it. An outdoor wireless CCTV will have to cope with the weather and be waterproof. You do not want it to freeze up during freezing weather. Most outdoor wireless CCTV comprises metallic bodies that will withstand the weather. 

Indoor cameras are installed inside the house, and it wouldn’t need to face the harsh climatic environment, including rain and sunlight. It may not have the feature to protect itself from the weather, for example, waterproof. But indoor CCTV still has some extent of impact resistance.

When it comes to installation, there is a bit of difference. Before installing outdoor wireless CCTV, make sure that the cameras are connected to the power source and network. Outdoor wireless CCTV should be permanently mounted in place. They should have an unobstructed view and be high enough to be away from vandalism. 

While indoor CCTV does not have to be fixed on a spot, especially with new wireless models linked to your network, it can be easily relocated if it is run on batteries. You can move it from room to room depending on your needs. 

It is best to get a professional who is familiar with the process for the installation. Many companies can install the CCTV. Small indoor cameras can be installed permanently in a particularly high-traffic area that may need a professional to install. Outdoor wireless CCTV may require a licensed electrical contractor as it may need hard-wiring into the electrical system.

3. Light Level

The light levels in indoor and outdoor vary between day and night. It will be best if indoor and outdoor cameras can operate in the dark. 

During the day, when there are dark clouds outside, it will create a low light level. In this situation, the outdoor wireless CCTV will need an infra-red LED to allow the camera to record video images in the dark. 

Usually, outdoor CCTV comes with the built-in ability to capture images during low-light situations and bright flashes of light. They typically have low-light capabilities compared to indoor CCTV.  Recent indoor CCTV may come with low-light capabilities in the case of a power outage. 

While buying, make sure you check with the supplier regarding the low-light capabilities. 

4. Appearance

Usually, people will want a CCTV that is able to match their interior decor. The design of indoor CCTV is usually smaller than outdoor CCTV. They can place in a spot that will not interfere with your interior design. But it is not suitable for the outdoor as it is not designed to fight with the weather. 

Compared to indoor CCTV, outdoor CCTV tends to be bigger and bulkier. This is because they are built to handle the weather outdoor. They use metal or sturdy casing so that it can prevent vandals from destroying them easily.  

Due to the physical structure of the outdoor CCTV, it doesn’t blend with the environment. It can act as a deterrent for intruders who tries to enter your home. However, indoor CCTV are compact, it is less visible to people.

Although CCTV installation is for the safety of your family and property, monitoring the situation, including your daily life’s privacy, is unpreventable. If you do not want to watch your family’s every move, you may not want to place it inside your house. Or you will want to install it at some main entry point which is more likely intruder will get it. 

However, if your primary concern is monitoring any intruders, an outdoor security system should be sufficient. If you want to watch your babysitter or keep an eye on your teenagers, you may want to install an indoor security system. You can monitor the activity from your computer or smartphone. 

Some people don’t like their privacy to be monitored, so if you have a babysitter coming in, you will inform them and let them know.
